I am looking at a custom made Kevlar drysuit. The suit is very light, and can be made with about any option you want, and the price is very good ($1350).

I have two primary questions. I have been told that a suit material that contains Kevlar will cut through the thread its sewn with due to the material being much stronger than the thread. Does this seem logical?

Secondly, the suit is self donning, but the zipper is horizontal and goes across the chest, from arm to arm. I commented that it looked very easy to kink or that it would be uncomfortable, and was told no in both cases.
Again, anyone have or has dove a zipper like that?

Thanks
MD

My Andy's has the horizontal zipper across the chest... and it was a little uncomfortable at first because if you have your arms anywhere but straight back along your sides then the zipper bunches up... and if you turn your head your regulator bumps into the bunch.

But I am use to it now and I like it better than my other suit. :D

Kevlar Suit??? What are you rolling in MD?

Well, I'm kinda, sorta, maybe looking at a new suit to replace my Bare. With the doubles, deco tanks, and generally different diving, the Bare has become "confining" due to being very tough and heavy. I'm essentially looking for a lighter, more flexible suit that is still sturdy. Some of the stuff we get into in the Columbia is hard on suits, and I ain't yet perfect in pursuit of grace and buoyancy. Also, the price is very attractive when compated to TLS 350.

Thought that about the zipper. Not great.
Thanks
MD

If you are intrested in a kevlar drysuit, this link is maybe intresting for you
http://www.divesystem.com/ the products are good, but maybe cost a little bit more...
http://www.icemen.it/Prodotti.htm if you wont ot go really cheap look this site, here i got my drysuit custom made for about 600 us dollars...

Thanks, but these are neoprene suits, I'm after a shell. The suit I'm looking at is like a woven material shell.

MD

unless you are a commercial diver and slugging material under water there is no need for the kevlar suit. The kevlar is bonded to the neoprene and creates a VERY ruff surface which REALLY reduces you streamlining. I dove one a little while ago as I had considered buying one, but trust me stick with the normal neoprene!!

The suit is not neoprene and weights about a pound.
