March/April is a great time of year to visit. Kauai has plentiful options for snorkeling. You can always snorkel from shore - south and north shore tend to be best depending on conditions. Many places rent gear. You may also want to consider local snorkeling tours from boats. There are some operators that do long tours to Napali (stunning) or local tours along the South Shore. Holo Holo Charters does great tours of Napali but its an all day activity. Z Toutz does south shore tours that are only a few hours. Either way you will see lots a great things. The great thing about going from a boat is that you get to see the island from a different perspective and you don't have to worry about walking over coral hurting yourself and killing the coral. I know you will enjoy the island.
