My buddies and I have been known to actually take the regs out of our mouths and yell into each other's ears underwater. You can USUALLY make out what is being said although for some reason one fo my friends keeps saying "olive juice" :)

"I want to know who makes the in mouth regs where you can talk through.....so clearly!!"

Back in World war II (which was a long time ago), the German tank crews had microphones that worked from the sound in the throat not out of the mouth so the message would be clear without the ambient noise in the air getting transmitted. Perhaps someting like that would work underwater?

Special Forces Teams use souped up versions of those now. They look like collars and allow them to transmit whispers very clearly.

Hmmmm, I imagine "olive juice" and "I love you" would sound very similar underwater.
If you hear your friend say "I want to vacuum", you may want to reevaluate the friendship. :D

Yep, forgot to metion, the WKPP ones were scooter mounted... not exactly hand-held. Persoanlly, I'd prefer the scooter although I plan on staying away from the ones that blow up when you let them get away from you.

I think these guys beat the WKPP to it (back in 1999)...
