So i finally got my dSLR. I was thinking of getting the canon 100 macro lens, but have also seen a lot of people using the sigma 105. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appretiated. Thanks.

Wow bro that was the camera i wanted! what case are you getting? hope i could help you with the lenses...

its going in the ike housing. ports are cheap as well, just have to make sure you get them on good so you dont get leaks. it sucks though because it will probably be 2 months before i can afford the housing!

alcina:
60 macro for macro and fish portraits
100 macro for a bit of working distance on skittish creatures
add Woody's dioptre (under $100) for even more wow :)

Ok, I'll bite. What's a Woody's Dioptre?

I have been told by everyone on the wetpixel and ddnet forums to go with the canon 60. i guess ill do that, and i i can always get the 100 if i want more zoom. aaaahhhhh, underwater photography.......the black hole for my bank account!

i believe it is basically a magnifying glass for your lens. the 2x diopeter will double the magnification of the lens.

this might sound stupid but from what i understand the diopeter is not a macro lens yet it can magnify your lense 2X, do i need an attachment for this? never heard of this one before.

Diopters are little filters that screw onto your lense. I have some made by Tiffen, apparently Woody's are also similar. They are often called "closeup lenses" or "closeup diopters" if you do a search on B&H or somewhere. They just screw into the threads on your lense, so you need to buy them in the right filter size. I use mine alot as a poor-man's macro lense in my topside photography.
