Well I'm advertising something that's completely free for ScubaBoard members: Mossman in Cozumel trip reports coming to your neighborhood soon. Tune in starting in a week or so. If you thought last year's episodes were exciting, this year promises more of everything. Will Mossman get the girl? Will there even be a girl? Who knows, but it will all be practically broadcasted live and starting soon. Gee, I can't wait!

Oh yeah, for those who have more mundane tastes, there will be diving commentary as well, plus reviews of Secrets Aura and every meal I consume.

It's like herding cats in here some times.....
Probably because we don't have Scubaboard approved Ops, hotels, restaurants, etc. To each his/her own, within safe diving limits.

I'm sure that Dave, Christi and other Ops contributing here is good for their business to some extent, but I wouldn't call it free advertising. I appreciate their input and help, even tho I don't dive with them, sometimes not agreeing with them. Most Ops will not post here because of the drama.

Free, because it doesn't cost them any money (unlike most other sources of advertising besides word of mouth). Advertising, because each time they post, they get their shop's name out to the public in a forum directed toward their exact clientele (i.e. scuba divers).

The result is obvious. The three biggest dive shop posters on the newsgroup are Aldora, Blue-X-T-Sea, and Blue Angel. Lo and behold, these three shops also get the most recommendations from other ScubaBoarders who happened to see them online.

It's very smart of them. I wouldn't be surprised if ScubaBoard generated revenues are 10-50% of their total.

But if they sucked (which I'm pretty sure none of them do), they'd be out of business - even though us SB's are loyal, we're also ruthless if we don't get the goods!

I've never dove with Blue Angel. I have tried the other two, but I dive with someone else now.

The fact is, most dive ops in Cozumel don't suck or they'd be out of business. It's a very competitive business. A finite number of divers, yet an multitude of dive ops fighting over them. Free advertising definitely gives one a leg up over the rest.

On my way to Coz tonight. Diving with 5 other divers, all family members. I am very excited for 9 days in Mexico! WEEE!

Oh, and my new Hollis F2s came in the mail yesterday!

Truth! lol.......ruthless doesn't even begin to cover it.

Untrue. Aqua World is still in business, and they are beyond sucking lol.
