Go up the street to Blue Angel for Happy Hour and stop by the dive shop and see what they've got going on!
+1 for El Pique and we thought Los Seras Al Pastor tacos with cheese were excellent. Chilangos was good and cheap (big open face taco things and quesadillas) but not the depth of flavor of the Pastor from the other two places. Christi's list of expat watering holes is great!
We hired a driver to take us around the island - he took us from place to place, hung out while we did our thing, then took us to the next place. The front desk of the Blue Angel found the guy for us. He spoke great english and it was really fun getting to know about him and his family as well as life as a local cab driver on Cozumel. We did Punta Sur lighthouse, wild side beach, Coconuts, then the ruins and had a really great non diving day - and you can keep a nice buzz on if you'd like to without having to worry about driving. I think it was $80 for the two of us for 3-4 hours but we took more like 5 hours and tipped the guy like crazy! We got him lunch at Coconuts which he ate while we were enjoying the ruins.
Fine in theory, not always practical in practice. What if she cave trains and he doesn't? Then he becomes the mule. The OP's real issue is that he needs to dump this girl friend and get one that wants to dive dive dive !!!!![]()
It probably won't make a difference in price if you pick a cab at random; it's a pretty common request. One thing that will make a difference is if you can hook up with some other folks who want to go and book a taxi van. Last year there were seven of us and the charge was $15/person. We did Mescalito's, Punta Morena for lunch, Coconuts, Playa Bonita, El Mirador, and Paradise Cafe, stopped at The Tree, and took the old road back up the west coast at sunset. It was lovely.Do you remember the cab number for the wild side excursion. That is not a bad price.
Diving can be exhausting. He's a smart man to have a girlfriend who saves her energy.Fine in theory, not always practical in practice. What if she cave trains and he doesn't? Then he becomes the mule.
Almost all of the dive Ops on the island are great, some charge a lot more than others but offer a lot more. I plan ahead but since you are there, grab one and go - weather permitting.
I heard on FB you had some rough times with hard winds, heavy rain, etc. The forecast looks crappy thru Wednesday. Hope you get better...!!

There is a huge Ceiba tree on the old road about halfway between the Rasta's corner and where the road swings to the north to go up the west coast. Its name is "Tree" to my family because of something that happened there back in the 70's with my mom and dad. They were going around the island in a rented car and stopped to look at it. There was a Mexican couple who did not speak English on a moped there at the same time, so my mom tried to ask them in her terrible to nonexistent Spanish what kind of tree it is. The closest she could get was something akin to "What is its name?", but the guy kept answering her in slower and slower and louder and louder Spanish something she could not comprehend. Finally, he threw up his hands and said, "TREE, lady!" So its name is Tree.Tell me about The Tree and the old road.
