I wear soft disposable contact lenses and have not had any issues while diving. I have removed my mask and swim with eyes open and have never lost a contact lens. Flooding my mask and clearing has never been an issue for me either. I always bring along extra unopened lenses during my dive trips just in case but I have never been required to use them. Besides, for "safety sake" you have two eyes (my assumption) so you have redundancy if you have trouble with one.

IMHO, contacts have not been an issue for me, however, Lasik would be a better choice.

I only wear my contacts underwater however if I lost them I'm pretty sure I would still be able to see well enough to be safe. I'm also the kind of person who can wear contacts for several days straight and not have irritation so that aspect does not concern me. Close your eyes underwater when your mask is off or flooded. I've found that I can't see with my eyes open anyways so I just keep them shut.

Good luck with the rest of your class and welcome to scuba.

Well I am near sighted myself and only found it to be an issue once. that was during the Epcot center dive when visibility seemed endless ( from one wall to the other anyway :) ) and it got blurry for me. But normally up to 100 foot visibility I can see just fine so I dont do neither. I am though considering a perscription mask now.

But on happier notes congratulations on earning the C-Card and welcome to the world of diving :)
