anyone have any suggestions on another book?

Are you interested in more non-fiction? If so, I suggest reading books by Commander Edward Ellsberg. On the Bottom is a good place to begin.

Free Diving by Dimitri Rebikoff is also interesting.

For fiction try "Down to a Sunless Sea" by David Poyer. And for a bit of trivia, the title comes from the same poem that Sheck used to name his "Caverns Measureless to Man".

Rock on, Dive well.

Ide suggest writing your own book "The Happy Hours" about all the happy times you've had diving the New England Wrecks. I feel you have what it takes to write a new wreck diving book based on the enjoyment of wreck diving on your favorite wrecks year round. Since you dive a variety of the wrecks people are always asking questions about, maybe this book would answer those questions and add a nice recreation (not recreational diving) spin to it.

How long has Sheck's book been out of print? Last I knew there were copies available.

Try Dead Man Tapping by Kate Yeomans. There is a chapter about the F/V Northern Voyager which happens to be a pretty cool dive off the north shore of MA.

From Her Website:

"In this deftly written account of a commercial fishing boat crew's fateful last hours, Kate Yeomans lays bare the blood-pumping chaos of a high seas rescue gone awry. She peels back the layers of truth and reconstructs this horrific event, guiding us to places we never expected to go. This is a unique and tragic story told in a redeeming, heartfelt manner."

--Spike Walker, author, Nights of Ice, Working on the Edge and Coming Back Alive: The True Story of the Most Harrowing
Search and Rescue Mission Ever Attempted on Alaska's High Seas

"In Dead Men Tapping, Kate Yeomans captures the suspense and the terror of The Perfect Storm while dramatizing and documenting a series of riveting mysteries that casts an unforgettable shadow over the U.S. Coast Guard and the eccentric rules of the open seas."

--Lee Gutkind, author, Forever Fat: Essays by the Godfather and The Art of Creative Nonfiction
