Well I dont know if any of you know where sault ste marie is, but i just finished my open water dive out at gros cap. Visibility was 15-20 (which is good for here) Water temp was 58-63 which is good for here. We were returning from our second dive when a fish was swimming right infront of us, out of nowhere a duck comes flying in the water about 5 feet down grabs the fish then takes off. This was a truely amazing sight. I wass diving with people with 40 years of experience and it was either their first or second time seeing that, it was real awesome.

What a gas! Welcome to the ranks, Collin. Would love to have seen that. Someday I'll get up to the "Soo" and dive it. Right now the Oregon coast is offering about the same in viz and temp.

Which side are you from - Ontario? Michigan? In my estimation one of the funniest diver groups around is SB's Ontario Fresh Water Freaks. I recommend searching the threads for references to "spike".

PS Your instructor's right about the air "sharing." And you're right, he's kidding about the knives.

PPS Don't believe everything you read here . . .

Congratulations and welcome to our religion! You may now learn the secret handshake.
If you had that much fun on your checkout dives in murky cold water, your brain is gonna leak out of your ears when you get into some warmer water with better visibility. :D

Congratulations! Very nice trip report!

Welcome to the underwater world,
Grier

It's great isn't it. Either I'm getting ready for a dive, or dream about it. It's kinda like a love hate thing. I love it when I'm diving, but hate when I have to be on land.

I think it's the gravity I hate most when I'm wandering around here on land. That, and the constant "Now, why did I come into the living room? What was I looking for?" moments. I don't seem to do as much of that underwater--thank goodness.

Welcome to the underworld...I mean, the underwater world. I know where sault ste marie is (I used to know the 3 letter airport identifier), but there's no way, at least now, that I'll be going there to dive. But, if you decide you want some pristine dives in really nicely warm water, come down to Florida and the conch divers will be happy to show you around!!

Ill, be down in florida for three days, then im going on a 4 day diving cruise to cozumel. . .Looking forward to that :D Have another open water wreck dive tomorrow, were doing a plane and a boat. Oh and I'm on the canadian side :)

Hi Collin.

Welcome to the world of diving and SCUBABOARD. Given your location there are two clubs you may want to check out. The Great Lakes Wrecking Crew and the Ontario Freaks. Both are good sources for buddies.
