Hello everyone, I wanted to pass along what a good time I had diving in Baja. You really should check it out! I flew into Loreto from San Dieogo, hired a car and headed north to find a sleepy town called Mulege! I LOVED it there - there is only one dive center in town and they have just been bought out by new owners.

The place is called Cortez Explorers and they are PADI, but the guy there, Mick, is also a BSAC 2nd class diver (showing my age now) :05:

Anyway - I dive with turtles, sealions a couple of mobula (even though out of season), and there were always dolphins heading out to dives (but none in the water I am afraid).

Anyway, I stayed a place that they offered as a package - for $89usd I slept in a really nice B&B, had a continental breakfast and they even packed me an excellent lunch for the boat! Oh, and that included two boat dives per day.

The only thing I did not get to was do a night dive - oh well, next time. Anyway, let em know if you want any more info on the place - I have been talking about them to everyone I can think of (i was impressed with the price and quality)

Their site is http://www.cortez-explorers.com - info is also there about the B&B (Villa Claire Delores).

What has been your experiance in the area? Has anyone dived Isla Ildefonso? I understand that is great, although I have not dived there myself. Any comments would be appreciated.

I hear Loreto rocks. That is one of the best whale-spotting places in the world, I think. How far north did you go from Loreto?...Mulege..I have a map on my wall of baja.

I want to go there. I think Baja has always been underrated. I will save your scoop, thanks!

When you posted a very similar report on March 19, you signed off as "Lizzie B." You had a follow-up question (from me), which you didn't bother to answer.

Now you've posted another "just back" report and asked for comments. Those are your only two posts on SB with your present login name. So...?

The prior "report":

I am very sorry -

Lizzie B. is my 'net name' - Sorry for not replying, my mail was filering the mail replies and I could not figure out how to stop them being marked as spam - that was why i also reposted...

Anyway, to answer your original questions...

I have only been the once, and I am told that the marine life changes as the water warms, but I saw the most wonderful cortez angel fish, small schools of jack, blennies and I think they are squirrelfish. There were also many rays of all kinds as well as moreys. I think my favorite, though, were the octopus.

I have been told that the fish life only increases witht he temperature. If this is the case, I am going to brave the heat of summer and head back - I will report on the fish then too, if you would like (and will try not to double post!)

Oh and the viz was 'okay' but not great while I was there, about 20/30' however this was due the the plankton blooming - I am told the best viz is sept-nov.

Lastly, the accent showed up because I typed it using a Mac, although if you press alt-131 (i think that is right) on a PC, you will ge tthe same effect.

We went to Loreto a few years back and dove the islands right off Loreto, can remember the names right off hand and my dive log isn't close by. But we went there in October, the water was still warm and the viz was between 50-75 ft. I have some pics in my gallery from our trip.

We hooked up with Bruce, Susan and Miguel at Dolphin Dive, Loreto. Good people also and very knowledgeable about the area. Would love to go back there again but also have other places want to go to as well, so it will have to wait.

Water temps in August to mid October are the warmest, winter and spring water temps are similar to so cal water temps.
