My friend and I just got back from an incredible weekend. We live in Tennesse and did our confined dives and classroom work here, then booked a trip to Fort Lauderdale to do our open water. It was absolutely incredible!! We went through Pro Dive in Lauderdale and let me tell you, these guys are great. Our instructor Dave was so much fun and very thorough. We were very comfortable the first time in open water. It was such a great feeling on that first decent, very hard to explain the excitement. Anyway, if you are thinking about getting certified in the fort lauderdale area, I highly recommend Pro Dive. After we performed our open water and got certified, we decided to drive down to key largo and dive that next morning. We dove with silent world diving(very accomidating). This was the first time we dove "on our own" so to speak. Well, 5 minutes into the dive, my buddy and I are on the edge of a reef when all of a sudden a reef shark and 3 smaller fish started coming down the reef right at us (about 30 yards out). I just stopped!! It came within about 20 feet then took a left away from us and the reef. I really became nervous because I couldn't see him any more. Well, we never saw him again but it was such an amazing experience. We also saw some barracuda(one got within 10 feet of my buddy). Needless to say, I am hooked on scuba. Sorry for the long thread, but just had to share.

Congratualtions on your certifications and on making those first independent dives!

It always pleases me the realize something unique happened or was seen in every dive.

Be sure to become active local divers, that's where your skills and safety will grow.

Pete
