Stan House, Sean and met at the shores and set out to see what we could see. What we could see was a lot of not much. Visibility started out fair but got worse down to about 60ft and then increased to poor below 80 ft. Ran into the bottom before I saw it. Had to hug the shelf to see it. Still managed to find 3 octopus, one the size of my thumbnail, a cabezon eating another fish. Three species of Nudibranchs. Two of which I have never seen before. Both of course are blurry images so ID may be tough. A sweet potato, several striped shrimp, a pipefish, the usual swimming crabs and a sea hare that thought it was a decorator complete with it's own spider crab hitch hiker. For all the poor vis it was still a nice night to be in the water. I hope you can all join us next time.

It's been very fun! Come down to Laguna or San Diego and come diving!
Otherwise, lets do a Point Dune or another LA county spot. Maybe Point Dune at night? Summer just started, so we have plenty of time to dive. You know, Mel and I are going to Anacapa on July 15 on the Peace boat. You're welcome to join us if your interested. It's a Thursday, but it should be great.

wrinkles:
Is it an open boat?
Yes it is.

pasley:
Temp at depth:59 Suunto degrees
Surface Temp: 69 Suunto degrees
Suunto Degrees... I've seen that a lot and have sometimes doubted my mosquito's ability to recognize a thermocline.
What do you find different about "Suunto degrees" specifically?
Thanks

Suunto Degrees. The Suunto Computer is slow to recognise tempretature changes, and so any reading is suspect unless you have been at the water temp for a time. I wrote to SUUNTO about it and they know there computers are slow to read the water temp, but did not indicate how long it would take at a specific temp to get a reading.

Bottom line is the water temp reported may be warmer than actual.

Comments:

Met John, Terry, Roy and Steve at the shores around 6pm. We all geared up and proceeded out to the bouy. The sun was shinning and the waves were knee high. Terry dropped down and checked conditions and found a light southern current and murky visibility. Terry and Steve buddied up, and John, Roy, and I buddied up. We all decended to 23 fsw and paused a few minutes on the bottom waiting for John to give us the signal to move out. Terry and Steve moved out of sight, so we moved to the edge of the canyon.
As we were moving over the edge into the canyon John suddenly entered a cloud of 0 visibility. Apparently he decended down the canyon and we didn't see him. Roy and I continued moving along the edge for a few more minutes looking for signs of John. I didn't see him and we had agreed if anyone got seperated to just continue the dive.. Roy and I continued along the edge decending down from 45 fsw to 100 fsw. We saw a huge sheep crap eating a jellyfish. He was not bothered by my pictures, but his size prevented me from moving in for some close-ups. We continued along the canyon comming across some small holes/caves in which there were a few lobsters. Later on we came across some fish condos and I took a few pictures. At depth we had some nice visibility, but if you went above 80 feet you could not see your fins. When we reached our turnaround air pressure we turned our compass to 90 degrees and headed up the canyon. We came across a few critters and the skull of something. I enjoyed the dive but wish I saw more. Can't see everything on every dive. Thanks for the dive John, Roy, Terry, and Steve.

p.s. John was fine but we didn't see him again till the car.
