I'm considering switching to a primary donate setup with the secondary second stage on a necklace, and wondering how a giant stride entry works out. Is the movement of the secondary second stage a problem? I can imagine it swinging up and hitting me in the face; is that not a problem in practice?

I THINK I've bungeed my pony second stage around the neck with no problem but that was years ago.
Now that I think of it, it was a rope (like clothesline). An instructor I had in FL recommended it.

No issue. You can hold it with your arm while your hand holds the reg and mask. When I lived in the tropics, nine out of ten staff used long hoses and bungee alternate with no issues; exiting the boats was always a giant stride.

I dive with this setup and have never even thought about it. I'm holding one hand over my mask and reg; maybe that helps, maybe it's not necessary for the problem you anticipate. I do occasionally have the bungeed secondary flip up upon various types of entries (even gentle ones, like descending the stairs at Casino Point) causing a freeflow, but that's a quick and easy fix and I don't lose a noticeable amount of air.

not a problem. If the suicide strap is adjusted properly it doesn't really have any room to go anywhere anyway. Your right hand is on the primary, so your forearm will prevent most movement. Just make sure the mouthpiece is aimed at your feet so it doesn't freeflow in your face.

The bungee should be short enough that the reg can’t get past your chin without stretching the bungee. If the reg is hanging down to the middle of your chest, it’s too loose. I see a lot of divers with the bungee way too loose.

As stated, not a problem. You have a hand holding the mask/primary and the necklaced sits in a little pocket under your chin contained by your wrist. There is enough stuff going on when you hit the water it isn't even on the radar.

Overthinking it.

DO IT !! Once you switch to a necklace you'll never go back to your old method.

and wondering how a giant stride entry works out...?
If I'm carrying a camera,,,,,I giant stride BACKWARDS . It softens the water against the front of my body and eases the force to the camera & strobes. You can step off the boat backwards too. And just like stepping forward we always look before we step backwards, makes no difference forwards or backwards.
