Jellyfish

We were at Ship Island this past weekend and I kept seeing a bunch of these. I have also seen these at St. Andrews at PCB. Just wondering exactly what they are and if they can sting?

I am not an expert, but it looks like a ctenophore or "comb jelly". They do not have stinging cells.

Indeed, it is a comb jelly. As Cali_diver said, they lack stinging cells (nematocysts) and instead cruise through the water column gobling up plankton.

I had a Norwegian GF who made lutefisk every Christmas. Cod soaked in lye. Yum yum.
