We found this critter floating in a current line off Palos Verdes, California. It's the size of a baseball. Any ideas?

The nearest aquarium in San Pedro uses a deep trawl boat a few nights out of the year to "explore" the deep by bringing up a few critters for passengers to see. They found two vampire squid last year.

VERY interesting, Phil. Was it a full moon?

Strangely enough, yes. I wonder if it could see its reflection on the surface. I'm just glad we didn't run into its offspring!
