We were about 200 feet off the beach at Lauderdale by the Sea a few weeks ago, and swam through a cloud of clear critters about the size of chicken eggs. I could see internal shapes, and they seemed to pulsate up and down in the water.

They rememded me of the fresh water jellyfish I saw many years ago, except that their shape was egg shaped.

Trying to touch them or catch them was impossible, as they just seemed to move with the water.
The group talked about them later.

Any ideas what we saw?

Ctenophores

Yes, sounds like ctenophores, commonly called comb jellies.

Yep, interesting to read about them if you Google sea walnuts. I thought I was dreaming for a while because they are so diaphanous.
