Ok. A few questions about the tanks here. Are the thread sizes that the valves screw into a standard size? In other words, if I buy two tanks here can I get H-valves/manifolds etc from the States that will fit to convert them to doubles? Another question - does anyone use DIN fittings here?

Hi Kim,

Manifolds/valves also needs to be Japan-approved to get tanks filled.

I have three sets of Japan-approved double Luxfer Alu80s with manifolds coming in next week. And smaller alu tank double sets for girls. These are really hard to get as manifolds are made in batches once a year and mainly exported. I can try to get you a set (and anyone else) but it will take months. I do have a 10L steel set for sale (it is not the best kind of tanks though). Short and stubby. Perhaps ok for a short but wide person.

I use only DIN here nowadays.

The thread size here is 3/4-14NSPM. (i.e 1.05" dia x 14 threads per inch 60 degree thread face angle) I doubt that yours use exactly the same therad. There is a similar sized metric thread used elsewhere, but mixing and matching thread sizes can result in injury or death if it blows out, and regretably it will seal to almost rated fill pressure. I know of one case where a metric thread in a US spec tank blew out on the back deck and cost one man a good chunk of his hand, and another man his life. Mixing and matching thread specs is a BAD THING.

OTOH many of the manifold manufacturers may have the metric thread as an option if you simply ask for it.

Thomas - do you have to use a yoke adapter to get your tanks filled?

All my Japan-approved tanks have the DIN/Yoke multivalve. I just put back the yoke-plug to get a yoke-tank for the fill-station. Most fill-stations I go to have these plugs if I forget to plug mine.
