yes! at about 2pm, and his 4pm blood gas was great. they're doing another at 10pm, but i really think that's the end of the et tube & ventilator! he's on cpap, which doesn't seem to be bothering him at all - it's a little mask thingie that fits snugly over your nose & blows air, like folks use who have sleep apnea.

he's on 15ml/hr of milk, 0.5mcg/kg/kr of sedation - so that's going well, too.

i gave him a sponge bath tonight - my first. i've washed bits of him before, of course, but this was my first head to toe with some soap! and he cried. he sounded like a small rusty hinge. after being intubated for so long, the respiratory therapist said it's likely to be several days before he gets his voice. it was precious. of course, he wasn't crying if he had his paccy, but i haven't grown that extra arm yet to hold it in place, and he's not good at sucking without spitting it out.

it's so much easier & less of a production to pick him up & put him down without the et tube. that is *so* nice! you have to be so careful not to accidentally pull that out, but not the cpap - you just put it back, no muss no fuss.

ok, so just to be interesting, he also got a temp this afternoon, so they're working him up for infection to be safe, but i don't think he was acting sick so i'm trying not to worry.

overall, a hugely good day!

very nice!

Such a great news break, YIPPEE!!!
Now when I bathed my son when he was little, there was always an extra ah, er, um, "spray" that happened. Be careful, wear glasses, and watch for the water spout!!!!
