Our data base is huge compared to most. It does take time. Patience is a virtue and I will check out the timer issue, though I have NEVER had it time me out.

Pete. You're not following what I'm saying.
There is a 30 second limitation between searches. So if I search for something, I can't issue another search for 30 seconds. if it -took- 30 seconds to do the search, that'd be one thing. It's sittting there, tapping your fingers for the 30 seconds to pass before you can issue a 'search' again.
Seriously, hit 'new posts', then view a post, then hit 'new posts' again to go back to the list...

10 seconds would probably be manageable.
If I remember right without this in place, the board can be severly disabled by cretins and accidentally by search bots.

10 shouldn't be bad. 30 was just frustrating. there's another board that uses 120, which is downright un-useable.

No, we have given robots free reign on the site to look and see what's up. It helps with your standings.

One that consistently keeps good time, unlike the FreeStyle that I have. Of course, it hasn't helped that I wear it while doing construction work.
What else do you like to do on this board besides ask & answer questions? Yes, you can plan trips with other divers, discuss the latest sports news, dissect the latest diving accident, but questions, answers to them, & oftimes the internet brawls that result are a major part of this board. What is the problem with that? If you don't like the fact that someone asked a question, you don't have to answer. I am not interested in photography (YET), so I don't visit that section of the board. I don't have an interest in getting a tattoo, so I don't view threads concerning them. I am not a sports fan, so I don't pay any attention to those types of threads either.
Bottom line, if you don't like answering newbie questions, don't. You use this board for one particulsr set of reasons, others will have different reasons than you do. Live & let live, & help someone who doesn't know as much as you out from time to time (if you feel like doing so).
