Please provide a 4" x 6" bright red button that says "SEARCH". Make the use of this button mandatory, say 10 times, by any one wanting to sign up.

As a bonus, please outlaw the use of the word "best".

Thank you.

This might be it.

Lemmie do a search and get back to everyone...

I think it's fair to say that a simple search doesn't always bring up what you want. Often I try to find a thread that I know is there somewhere, normally because I remember something from the old thread that pertains to a new question. It doesn't always work though. Advanced search yields slightly better results - but again, not always.

True, but how many threads do we really need about Leisurepro opinions?

I agree - but isn't that part of the problem? Do a search on something that has a lot of threads on it - and that's what the search finds - a lot of threads. It doesn't always help to find the relevant information. How many threads get off topic and end up as something totally different? They still come up in the search though. I think that's why people get fed up looking - and just go the quick route - re-ask the question again (which creates even more same topic threads!)

Kim, you have a most valid point regarding threads going off course !!!!!

Give the scuba/web board noobs a break! Not everyone is web or diving saavy and this place is HUGE! On another board where I post (my post count is 1900 or so) if a noobs gets lost we give 'em a little grief and then help them find what they're looking for. It only seems fair...you were a noob once.

I have better luck limiting the key words to a title only search, rather than searching the entire text.

That way, if you look up "backplate" as a title only, you only get threads with that word in the title, while the usual "entire text" search yields all the threads that have the word in either the title or the thread.

For those that don't know, this choice is available in the advanced search option.

Anyway, that may be helpful to what Kim was talking about...
