I figured only us girls would be bothered by this...The clear silicon skirt around my mask appears to be turning a dingy yellow. It's my first mask that I bought for my OW class and fits really well, so I'm kinda attached to it. Anyway it's only a few months old and the dingy yellow thing bothers me. Is there anything to clean it with that will keep it clear?

Kinda gross, isn't it? My first mask was that clear silicone, too - same thing. My more recent masks I've bought the black so that it won't yellow. A clerk at the LDS told me that "these days" the silicone wont do that... but according to your experience, she was mistaken.

It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.... Maybe they should just go ahead and make them a lemon yellow color to begin with - that way you get the brightness of the clear silicone, and it's already yellow to begin with!!!

It's part of the aging process. You can slow it by keeping it out of the sun and out of contact with rubber. OTOH, there's no better place to store a mask than in a fin foot pocket. So much for no contact with rubber.

Although mine are all clear now, my next masks will have black skirts to reduce ambient light entering my mask which makes videotaping more difficult.

Clear silicone is nice for scuba models as it allows a little more illumination of their faces. Some folks also feel less claustophobic in them but my preference has always been black.

A black skirt ages well, looks clean even when it isn't and eliminates all those distracting reflection that occur with a clear skirt when near the surface.

Not sure if this is that same or not but I had a mask with a silicone skirt. When it would get kind of foggy looking I would take some silicone spray, spray a little on the skirt and work it in with my fingers. It would always return the skirt to like new look. I did this well before it would turn yrllow though.

It may be worth a try.

My wife has one and loves it. She's had it for a year or so, probably 75+ dives and no yellowing yet.
