After using a canon A 620 for several years, I am ready to move on to a new set up. I currently own a fanta sea tray and strobe set up which I would like to keep.

I don't want to spend a fortune -- any suggestions that would use the strobe and stay under $500?

Since you posted this in the Olympus Forum, did you want advice on Oly cameras? Personally it seems hard to beat a G9 and there's a pretty good setup on Ebay right now.

I am open to ideas on brand -- never had an olympus, so I am looking for advice on model, etc. Why the G9? How does that stack up against a similar oly or nikon?

The G9 has everything you wanted. Its being replaced by the G10 which according to what I've read isn't as good as the G9. I've seen users post great photos with the system and its been out for awhile so you're not on the "bleeding" edge of technology.
