Hello Everyone,

I will be in Islamorada April 29-May 3. I would like to get a couple of days of diving in. What I would like is a charter that does two wrecks, instead of a wreck and then shallow reef. Just not interested in the shallow reefs in the area. Also would not want the Benwood to be the second dive, not much of a wreck. So does anyone know of a shop that runs this type of trip?

Thanks for your help, Al

Of the major wrecks in the area (Bibb, Duane, and Speigel Grove) all are pretty much the same profile- about a 110 fsw. One would need a heck of a surface interval to do the Speigel Grove, then run over to the Duane or Bibb. Unless you do a private charter, I cannot imagine having much luck finding such a deal. Many companies do the Speigel Grove then the Benwood as they are pretty near eachother and the Benwood is a much more modest dive. In fact, the only other "bigger" wreck in the area is the Eagle and that is a pretty good run south. Maybe someone else has an idea, but the only other wreck I can think of is The City of Washington. If the Benwood does not interest you then T.C.O.W. will not either.

We often make "double-dips" on the Spiegel Grove, and sometimes dive the Bibb followed by the Duane. Our schedule allows for two hours onsite... enough time for two thirty minute dives and a one hour surface interval. Several of the smaller operators here do the same thing.

In Islamorada, the only deep wreck I'm familiar with is the Eagle. Without running the fifteen miles up to Key Largo, I'm not sure where your second dive would be. Back-to-back dives on the Eagle might be nice. Be sure to let the operator know what you have in mind when you book.

Off Islamorada your dive option is the wreck of the Eagle. Actually one of my favorites.
Ocean Quest is located at Snake Creek in Islamorada. Pat, the owner has been know to schedule a double dip of the Eagle. Give her a call at 18003568798 to schedule. If she can get a couple of other divers interested, you may be in luck.
If you decide to dive the Speigel or Duane, you will need to book with a Largo boat. It will be hard to get an Islamorada boat to sail that far north.
