General Information

What to expect: The resort occupies Islote El Yunque, a tiny island connected to Isla Mujeres by a 91.5-meter (100-yard) wood bridge spanning a shallow channel. This feature adds tropical-island mystique for guests seeking secluded, casual holidays with a Mexican-Caribbean ambience. To reach North Beach (Playa Norte), Isla Mujeres' most famous sand stretch, guests need only wade 18 meters (20 yards) through waist-deep water.

Amenity highlights: Bent around a corner of the resort's tower, a large pool contains a shallow children's section and masonry lounges for sunning. A 91.5-meter (100-yard) calm-water beach is furnished with thatched-roof palapas and lounges. Snorkelers descend stairs from the resort's 46-meter (150-foot) dock and explore a coral reef in a protected "snorkeling park" a few yards away.

Insider tip: Famed King's Bath (Piscina del Rey), a natural, nine-meter (30-foot)-diameter, coral-rock pool, lies just off the resort's villa section. The 1.5-meter (4.5-foot) deep pool is softly illuminated after dark.

I am going, found the trip on expedia flight and hotel out of Austin for $712.22 round trip 7 nights, still need to pay for diving and food.

If your interested check it out on the website, there is cenotes and cavern diving available, wreck diving and that sleeping shark area off the Island.

Anyone else been to this location please let me know your experience.

Here is more info on the Yucatan area for diving from this location.

Did I say beautiful and really awesome?

One of the most common activities in Isla Mujeres is to take a Boat Tour where you will have the opportunity to get marveled by the lively shallow reefs surrounding the Island, get acquainted with everything and everybody, stroll on the North Beach and enjoy the catch of the day, cooked in a beach front rustic restaurant.

A very important fact is that Isla Mujeres has very accessible reefs, either for experienced divers or rooky snorkelers. On the southeast coast of the Island, facing mainland, there are many shallow reefs ideal for the safe practice of this activities. A very interesting site to dive is “La Cruz” (The Cross) and “La Virgen” (The Virgin) two bronze sculptures placed in a shallow reef which are sacred and worshiped by the islanders.

Diving “La Cueva de los Tiburones Dormidos” (The Sleeping Shark’s Cave) is a world renown activity in Isla Mujeres, a phenomenon seldom seen anywhere else in the world, this dive is only recommended for very seasoned and experienced divers. At two hours by boat there are some other highly specialized diving activities, such as diving among Whale Sharks and Gigantic Rays.

In Isla Mujeres you may find excellent Dive Shops, fully equipped to serve you and just located close to the main pier or on the beach.

Cavern Diving from either of these locations

Cavern Dive

Description The Yucatan Peninsula, site of the Dos Ojos Cavern Dive, contains the most extensive system of under-water caverns and caves in the world; a place where much of this natural phenomenon is yet to be discovered!. For competent certified Open Water divers, we offer an opportunity to experience the world´s most incredible cavern dive in this Mayan realm of cenotes and lost worlds. You will float in crystal clear water through this Yucatecan dreamland of natural cavern formations and feel the ancient and timeless forces of nature that carved these beautiful caverns. With a maximum depth of 30 feet (10 m) and never more than 150 feet (50 m) from air, there is 1,500 feet of cavern to see without ever leaving the light zone. These unique tours are guided by knowledgeable, certified cave divers in groups of four or less.

Places to visit
The first dive is a traverse from one cenote to another. During this 45 minute dive you will explore the vast cavern zone of Dos Ojos (Two Eyes). The crystal clear waters offers unlimited visibility and gives the feeling of flight, as you silently view the unbelievable beauty that has made this cenote so famous. The play of light and colors combined with the awesome formations make this dive a truly unforgettable experience

The second dive is to the Caverna de Murcielagos (Bat Cave), which takes you through galleries ranging from huge columns and stalactites to very fine and intricate formations. This is truly a mind blowing area and often divers are so impressed that they come up to the surface speechless. This dive has been described as having the most intense beauty of any cavern in the world.

My wife and I will be catching the Continental flight early Saturday to Houston, then Houston to Cancun, taxi to Ferry and boat to Isla Mujeres. Expedia booked the airfare and hotel room for 7 nights for the best price during peak January season.
