Currently expected to skirt the islands north as a Tropical Storm. If she hit the mountains of the Big Island or Maui, that'd probably break her up, but as projected now - may continue. Lots of rain and rough seas I guess. The last one that broke up near there was blamed in a snorkeler death when clear skies turned nasty.

Now she is indeed expected to hit the Big Island and its mountains, arriving tonight as a Cat-1 after all. Flooding and landslides are the biggest concerns I think. Surfers are excited, but all other water activities are being shut down, ports & schools closed, groceries emptied, etc. Julio is expected to follow just two days later altho they're expecting it to veer north of a direct hit.

This is the first in 22 years I think. I remember when Iniki hit Kauai in 1992. I spoke with the Hyatt there some time after and they said they still had a boat stuck on their beach.
