UHMM......you arent Navy. Its funny how you can tell what branch one serves by the lingo he/she uses. Pogue means a ***** (prostitute) (can I use that word?). And it really goes to one that hasnt seen combat. Even the ground pounders are called this.

REMF is just someone who isnt on the front line. A 63w is a front line medic, so he wouldnt be a REMF but he isnt a combat arm MOS;)

Nope, not Navy, same department though. ;)

So were mine....but in the wrong direction.

At least my MOS is correct on Military.com. Also, there are three other websites out there that can check. Two of them you have to be vetted on thier sites. The third is through the FOIA.

I didn't know you could search for people on Military.com like that. Actually, I didn't even know military.com existed. :D

Anywho, my middle name is wrong, my rank is wrong, the state I live in is wrong. Basically, they have the branch and my last name right. Other than that, its all wrong. Of course, even my DD-214 is wrong so I'm not all that surprised that a website got it wrong also.

I guess the point would be, don't go running around "outing" people based upon info you find on the internet, it may not be accurate.

Was on a dive boat once with bunch of guys about my age and some younger females.

Well, one of the guys was laying it on pretty heavily.

He was telling of his daring, heroic exploits in Viet Nam as a door gunner on a Cobra helicopter (AH-1G).

On the ride back in, as he was continuing his self-aggrandizement to the utter amazement and rapt attention of the young ladies, walked over to him, apologized for interrupting his saga, produced my VHPA membership card (Viet Nam Helicopter Pilots Assn.) and simply stated that Cobras didn't have "doors" much less door gunners. Turned around and went back to my seat.

The remainder of the ride was a bit awkward, but I enjoyed every moment of it.

People like that piss me off not only because they're liars, but they're lazy liars. If you're going to make up a BS story to try to get chicks, at least get some basic facts down. I've heard some stuff that made me cringe, but door gunner on a Cobra takes the cake.

the guy was tryin to get some...he did get soemthign but not what he must have been hoping for...:D:dork2::lotsalove:

Oh, wow! That's perfect. Got him good!!! How funny! Bet he swallowed his tongue on that one.

That made me laugh...I was a 67N (Huey Crewchief).....

This isn't limited to the diving vacations in warm places, btw. Though up here in the frigid north, what the typical diver tall tale is revolves around the big-talker explaining how they dove on the "Fitz."

I dove with a guy in the Philippines back in the late 90s who claimed to be an ex Seal. He showed me pictures of his ship next to an Apollo capsule being retrieved from the sea. He claimed he was trained to go down and disarm nukes that had been on a sunken ship or plane. His dive skills, by recreational standards...trim, buoancy etc, weren't that polished and he did suck his air down pretty quick. I just figured he was trained to dive for a purpose and rec diving wasn't his thing. ?? Was he a Seal? He was about 52 in 95 so he would have been old enough for the Apollo thing.

During the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo days quite a few of the Navy Divers UDT and SEALS were trained in capsule recovery. I was one of those for Gemini and Apollo. There were main recovery teams but ALL the others, like myself, were back up teams should the capsule land way off the expected LZ.

My basic 4 week SCUBA school was extended to 6 weeks because of the added training involved. My ship was one of the few Destroyers they tried using to recover the Apollo capsules. Not only didn’t it work we nearly capsized the ship trying. That little sucker is just to heavy for a 42’ wide ship to pick up.

It isn’t unusual for Navy Divers in the 60’s and 70’s to be on the recovery teams. Now getting your hands on one was another story as they were normally picked up by the main team. Those tech guys were good at getting them to come down where they wanted them to.

We hired a guy several years ago who even put on his application that he was a Navy Diver. He got hired and did nothing but brag about all the stuff he did and once he got off of probation he was going to get on our dive team and straighten it up. I let it go on for weeks before I asked for his card or DD214. He couldn’t produce either and about dumped a load in his britches when he found out I was one. Turns out he was never a diver of any kind. He is no longer with the department.

Another one still is but didn’t put Navy Diver on his application. He just bragged a lot and cant produce a card of any kind. He said the shop lost it. What shop? It’s closed down. What agency? What what? Which agency did you get certified through? I can’t remember. ;)

Then there are those who do get a civilian recreational certification while in the service and try to pawn it off as being a Military Diver.

Here are a couple of FUBAR training pics from the mid 60's.
