Let's say I have to carry a tank over a long distance on hard ground, i.e. a sidewalk or boardwalk. Is there an easy way to carry a scuba tank? Maybe some device that has wheels or something like that? I really dread carrying all of this stuff to the beach.

Google is my friend, I have no idea how good or bad these are. Never even seen one

I used a basic hand truck. I even welded a larger plate on the bottom when I needed to carry more tanks.

They also come in folding versions.

You roll it. Get one of those collapsible canvas carts. They fit in small cars. Then roll your gear. I have two bad knees and my trusty cart goes everywhere I dive. It baffles me when people do multiple trips when one cartload would do it. Get one with wider wheels.

First, carefully arrange the tank so that the bottom faces the direction you want to transport it. Use a small amount of padding to keep it stable, and apply a sledge hammer to the valve as hard as you can.

or

start diving steel doubles, which makes carrying a single downright pleasurable.

or

get a cart.
