And I'm going to be diving for a shop. Working for a shop. Somewhere out there in the tropics. Diving a reg that my shop can't sell to customers. ??? Supporting my shop in that way.

I mean. wtf...

Sounds to me like you need to find an employer first, and then make your regulator decision.

Well. Here's one thing. I know everyone is just trying to help me out, and giving me their best advice.

But I work at a really nice scuba shop. Very top of the line everything.. equipment, instruction, servicing, etc. I've seen various things on the internet that rate us as high as the #3 best dive shop in the US.

We're a dealer for literally every single scuba co. you could name, with the exception of a couple small ones (who we can still get stuff from if we need to).

I just asked our service tech about Conshelfs. And I was informed that even we cannot get service parts for them. If someone brings one in for servicing, there's literally nothing we can do for them. Besides maybe honoring it by giving it a place in our antiques museum.

And that's the reg that you guys are telling me I should go into my career with, expecting to be able to use it for the next 10yrs??

My buddy dives a Conshelf (exactly the same one that's been recommended to you) and gets it serviced with new parts every year, maybe your shop isn't all it's cracked up to be... Dude, stick with the reg you have. It's a great reg and will last you forever. I have a feeling you're REALLY overthinking this.

Your service tech does not know what he is talking about... Service kit numbers are... #900001 for the first stage and #90000-07 for the second stage..

It's not titanium though. 5-6 dives/day, 5-6 days/wk.. all salt water and chlorine.. 10 yrs.. you don't think it's going to corrode badly enough to need to be replaced?

I am over thinking this. Maybe. But with this great discount I've got. I've got a chance to very valuably get any reg I want before I leave to be an instructor. I want to make sure I take advantage of it; if there's something to be taken advantage of.

Yes
From who, Aqualung?

Yes, Those are aqualung numbers and I have a friend that works for a dealer and gets his stuff from him.. I order my kits form http://vintagedoublehose.com/ as Aqualung will not sell to you unless your a dealer.. Most of the guys that work on regulators just buy O-rings bulk .. As they are just O-rings..

I'm going to try and help you out... DON"T BUY A Conshelf... Buy the "XYZ" regulator you like that's there top of the line flagship one... Have it serviced every year and this way you'll get " Parts for Life " if they offer that..

I'n fact, The regulator you have right now is a great one.. No need to buy a new one, Unless it's beat up.. And has not been taken care of...

I've done all I can do here...

OldSchool.

I've spoke to our service tech in depth about my predicament here. I'm going to be doing 5-6 dives/day, 5-6 days/week, in warm, salt or chlorine water.. and I want a regulator that's going to be great for me for 10+ yrs.. that isn't going to break down.. that isn't going to wear down.. that isn't going to be expensive to service.. that parts are always going to be readily and easily available for.. that I myself am going to be able to service.. and, ideally, something that I'll get parts for life for.. that way -- if the parts are free and I can service it -- I'll never have to pay anything to maintain my reg.

Our tech likes Diaphragm > Piston 1st Stages. Even Titanium 1st Stages have metal parts in them.. and unless it's a dry (Diaphragm) chamber.. salt/chlorine water is going to get in there and f* stuff up.
--My next question was.. well, does anyone make a Titanium Diaphragm? I guess that's impossible.

Our tech, for my goals, recommended the MK17 EVO from Scubapro. Our tech thinks their diaphragm's are the strongest. And their kits include a new diaphragm. Whereas Aqualung's doesn't.
--Apeks' kits do, on the other hand, include a new diaphragm.
...So maybe that will be the next company that I really investigate here.

The Conshelf is a Piston 1st stage, correct?

You read were I went 37 years on a Conshelf 1st stage ? I can't help you, Anymore then I have.. If you want to listen to a "TECH" that doesn't know that a titan and conshelf take the same parts ? That doesn't know that all the parts are available for them, And just goes with the " DIVE SHOP " line that they are old and no good and can't be serviced !!!

Like I said a few post before... And said again... I've done all I can do for you.. I stand by the FACT that, The Conshelf supreme XIV is the most robust, easy to service and will have parts available WORLD wide as long as my kids are alive...

Jim....

Sure. I'm hearing your input. And I obviously am still in an information-gathering stage (i.e. I haven't made up my mind, or gone with you vs. our tech, etc; still researching dude). And I very much appreciate your input!

I'm just wondering.. is the Conshelf a Piston or a Diaphragm? I'm sure I can find that out on my own. But perhaps more specific / veteran information on the actual design of it, you have.
