We have been going to Bonaire but it's alot of domestic labor for me (shopping, cooking, dishes). We enjoy Iberostar in Cozumel and our tween kids really enjoy the kids club. They are beginning to dive and I've read good things about the house reef at Sunscape and the AI is very appealing if the food isn't terrible. (Is there fresh fruit available at the buffet)?

Anyone been to both that can offer a comparison?

my wife and I have been Sunscape 3 times in the last 3 years, and we're returning again in March. The resort is OK, but a bit dated. The food is OK, but not superb, but we have yet to starve. We really like diving with Ocean Encounters, love their staff, and the house reef is fantastic. The beach is often regarded as one of the best resort beaches, and Mambo beach is super close. It's one of our favourite dive destinations.

Thanks for your input, this is very helpful. Room and resort aesthetics are low priority for us, as long as things are functional (like a working AC that could get the room to at least 75F/23.8C.) Sunscape catches my interest because I wanted a great house reef where we could easily take the kids diving out in front and I'm hoping boat dive logistics are also easy.

1. Could anyone compare the Sunscape house reef to the one in front of Sand Dollar/Buddy on Bonaire?

2. I'd never expect great food at an AI, although the benefit of going to Mexico is that it's not difficult for a resort to offer good beans & rice, fresh pico, guac, and tortillas -- all of which my family will happily devour for a week. But with a Curacao AI catering to the Dutch, I'm not quite sure what to expect. Is there ice cream avail everyday for the kids?

I've stayed at Sunscape twice. Is a good AI resort. No one in our groups have had any issues with the a/c not working. Ice cream is available in the afternoons.
The house reef is fantastic! It's been several years since I've been to Buddy Dive in Bonaire, but as I recall the Sunscape house reef is better.
