Hello, I have bought a BCD, which is a zeagle escape I believe. It is red in front, and black on the back. My concern is if it would be too visible to the shark... please help me out, I don't have much diving experience so far. Thanks.

As long as you don't smell or act like their food, or intentionally piss them off, the sharks won't care what color you wear. I also saw an episode on Mythbusters recently about blood in the water and sharks. Human blood did nothing for a shark's behavior. One drop of fish blood though and they got all excited. Lesson noted: don't wear fish blood.

I'd avoid bull rings wearing the Zeagle though.

Red and yellow colours attaching sharks is a myth, often told by experienced divers to newbie’s.

Pity really: as you will discover as you start diving sharks are fantastic creatures underwater, seeing one is a highlight in any dive, and many divers go out of their way to dive with them.

Cheers,
Rohan.

It's the position you adopt underwater or on the surface and not the color of your gear. In fact I would say you red is a good option. Some of us who wear mostly black (like me) may more easily be mistaken for shark food than someone with colors. Better to be upright than in the prone position when sharky comes around too. Above all don't stare 'em down, i.e. look them straight in the eye... in any case a shark attack under water with a diver is rare. The surface is much more dangerous.....

Hi Noboundaries, could you elaborate more about why should avoid bull rings?
Thank you.

Me thinks twas a joke:

Bullrings = bulls

Red + bulls = bad (or at least as the stories go)

Quick... what's the FIRST color to disappear at depth??? That's right: RED! The deeper you go, the more your vest will appear gray to most life forms. Sharks CAN see color, but I doubt that they can perceive red any better than we can.
