Moving a thread to the back room doesn't decrease the post count, only deleting posts will do that.
 
Maybe you posted many posts in one day and the counter didn't have time to count them in till you finished them all

Copying a thread will increase the post count.

So maybe this is what happened!? (as my post count increased, from 970something to 1045).

Maybe you are doing the same thing you did here, reply to each post individually, instead of using the M-Quote feature. . . .
