I wanted to know if this is illegal because my friend wants to do it and im not sure if there is any law against it. I know that it amy seem like a dick move but it won't effect anybody negatively, because there are few people that actually attend this pool.

It would depend on the rules of the specific pool. Probably has nothing to do with other people being there, but any given place may or may not be concerned about liability, about someone damaging something with tank or weights, or have no good reason at all.

It's not likely that it's illegal, however you would need to check with the pool's manager to see if they'll allow it.

Being "legal" and "allowed" are different.

flots.

Not illegal, but most pools either won't allow it or will only allow it at specific times.

Myself, I find pools to be incredibly boring. They're really only suitable for practicing skills and even then I prefer open water.

For a class though I can understand why the instructors might like to do things in a pool.

As Flots has mentioned above, check with the pool manager first.

Key concern is damage to the bottom tiles due to contact with the tank and possibly weights.

If your tank has a rubber/plastic boot and you are using plastic coated/ soft / integral weights, then you might be able to convince the manager that there should be minimal damage if any.

Its unlikely to be against any law. There is the whole females complaining about perverts issue.

But instead of asking a question in a public forum why not ask the management of the actual pool you want to use?

For the record --The chlorine they use in public pools is horrible for the fabric of your gear-Not so much cloth damage more bleaching.. If you do go in a pool wash the gear really well

Sounds pretty apocryphal. Anybody with a mask can swim underwater and gawk at people after all and if you wanted to be discrete about it you certainly wouldn't want to make a spectacle of yourself by going into a public pool in scuba gear.

The issue is whether a pool owner, whether private or public, want the scuba gear in the pool. It is NOT appropriate to just show up with equipment, gear up, and jump in. Many pools will accommodate you but limit you as to time od day, day of the week, and area of the pool. But if you just show up and try to do it without prior arrangements, you can be sure you will not be alloed to stay, and probably not allowed to return.

All depends. I have a pool at my apartment complex and I actually rented a tank and just grabbed some weights and regs and laid on the bottom (max dept is like 5ft) and just got used to breathing through a reg underwater. Wasn't the most exciting dive I did (and no, didn't log it) but I did get some practice/experience breathing underwater (which was the main goal)
