No manufacturer consistantly makes the best of everything.
I dive 30 - 50 dives a year and dive with a Dacor Viper Metal.
It has performed flawlessly EVERY TIME. My dive buddy uses a Titan LX, he likes his too. So what? Theres a lot of good gear out there, do your own research and find what you like.
good luck,

I'd be interested to know what evidence you have to support your assertion that the score you get in Rodale's is directly proportional to the amount of advertising taken by the manufacturer.

I've never noticed this tendency but to test your theory I just checked the last 4 issues to see which Dive equipment manufacturers advertised. I noted that amongst others neither Aqua Lung, Mares or Oceanic have advertised yet these and other manufacturers who don't advertise tend to receive good ratings for their products. Could it be that this is because the products they manufacture are good?

I think the onus is on you to either prove the truth of your assertion or withdraw it.

Regards

Whether it's junk or not is only a matter of opinion. While it may not be the latest and greatest, I have a couple of hundred dives on my Dacor Extreme regulator (1995) with absolutely no problems. From local cold water dives (NY), to quarries to the Caribbean and at a wide variety of depths it has always been easy breathing with no freeflows. I get it serviced regularly as I would with any reg. My Dacor BC was replaced two years ago with a Zeagle Ranger and although I'm looking at a new Scubapro Mk25/S600 regulator, my Dacor equipment worked well with no complaints and I would say I was completely satisfied.. (And, yes, I did get a free dive vacation when I bought the equipment many moons ago).

In retrospect, and if possible, your best bet is probably to "test dive" gear your interested in to make sure it meets your expectations and needs. Special applications (cave, tech, etc.) of course will require specialty equipment.

I have over 300 dives on my dacor extreme including ice dives. I don't get annual checkups. I've had no free flows or freeze ups. I think the 1st stage is great. The second stage has a couple of problems. The soft regulator cover/purge likes to try to lose itself. Ive broken one of the clips which helps hold on the adjustment knob. The venturi vane doesn't seem to affect the flow much. Over all I trust this regulator to work under any and all conditions.

Can't speak alot about their reg's, ect..... but what i have seen and heard from other fellow divers, they are expensive. I would asked alot of questions and check out reviews and $ of other repuable manufacture's gear befor i bought. Have Oceanic delta 3 reg's and love it.

I have bought a wetsuit and a pair of Dacor Tiger fins from Dacor and to say the wetsuit was over priced and stiching started to fall apart. As for the tigers, about after a dozen dives, they COMPLETELY fell apart. Not serviceable.... Was i pis.............

Safe diving to ya all.....

...and I may have posted to this very thread in another lifetime, but I have a Dacor Rig 2 BC, which I purchased second-hand from an instructor at our LDS. He was heading New Guinea (tough assignment) and could only bring his more pack-able BC. I've used, and dare I say *abused*, this thing and it has proven a worthy purchase.

You'll read "too many D-rings...poseur BC...tech wannabe...bla bla bla," but I can tell you that it works well, fits great, and is quite reliable. And anyone who thinks I may be poseur had better get their eyes examined.... ;)

FWIW Dacor is what James Bond uses in all of his movies.

There then, that settles it! "Q" wouldn't let James dive junk!
