I'd be really surprised if the scubaboard TOS didn't legally amount to a statement that there's a bunch of ways you can expect to be treated on scubaboard, but that all rights are reserved by scubaboard and you may be treated differently. I'd be a little bit shocked if the TOS actually conferred legal rights on members beyond what the legal system gives them by default...
by essentially, I mean - is similar to, but not necessarily a legal contract. We as scubaboardians are "bound" by the TOS which is in essence the constitution of the board. I'm using metaphor. ;)

Ah, I read you literally, hence the confusion.

(And reading through the TOS trying to determine if it confers any legal rights is not my idea of a fun afternoon and not being a lawyer isn't really something I'm technically qualified to do...)

So would I. :D

Quite obviously, most of us want ScubaBoard to flourish, if only for selfish reasons. That being said, we want to AVOID bureaucracy whenever possible. Mods have a contract that in essence tells them to be nice and to act in the best interests of the community. Quite often we change our MO in an attempt to make things nicer as well as more pertinent for you, the user.

Communication has been a recurring theme not only in this thread, but in our discussions in the back room. How to do it efficiently without causing a significant work load on our volunteer staff. In this regard, it's just as important that ScubaBoardians take the time to Report posts that cross the line. There is no way for us to monitor all of the posts on this forum, not even if we tripled our staff. It's deucedly impossible to consistent if we don't get these reports from you.

I promise you: If you do your part, we will do our best to do our part. We won't be perfect, but we will try to correct our mistooks as we go along.

if it's any consolation, i understood exatly what you meant

also, i must say that this board is far more open to member input than any other board i know of, and is more willing to enter into dialogue

which is why i think it's key that they get some feedback on what sort of dialogue works and what doesn't, and why what they do officially sometimes gets lost in translation

it's all communicaiton. every action, every ban, every pulled thread, it's communication. you need to be aware of what each of those utterances is conveying ....

post count quota met!!

sorry, where was i?

oh yeah, make every act of communication with the members count!

and let me add that i both agree and disagree with my above statement!

Well, I see this long, drawn-out discussion got summarily ignored by the SB staff ...

SB Moderator (whoever that is):
Now that all the apologies have been exchanged, the fences mended and the hatchets buried, this thread is closed.

... and the reason it was closed ... just about the time we were finally getting somewhere?

Who the hell knows? Nobody made any attempt to say ...

despite my joking, i was and am very bummed out by how our actions in this thread were interpreted by the staff (or at least some of the staff, and agreed to by Pete)

you close threads when you deal with mobs and whining teenagers and post quota-meeters and, sadly, that's how we're perceived

the lesson i am taking away from this is, don't even try dialogue. it won't get you anywhere, i am sorry to say

i do see some Mods trying very hard, and that gives me hope, but i fear they are in a minority

ScubaBoard has been taken over by "The Decider" ... and apparently they don't even want you to know who that is anymore ...

What a sorry state of affairs.

From two days ago ... just a few replies before this one ...

Pete ... actions speak louder than words ... and your promises don't seem to mean a whole lot ...
