I was going to dive at anacapa/santa cruz in Feb in a 7mm wetsuit but a friend told me it is to cold and you can only dive these sites in a drysuit from dec to june. Has anyone dove with a 7mm and been warm enough? I was thinking of buying a vest or a vest with an attached hood to go under the 7mm

7mm no sweat at Anacapa. I use a drysuit "all year" because I am a pussy! That said, the water will be no problem at Anacapa...but if you are on a multi day dive boat, it is the time between dives in the 50 degree mist that gets you--not the water itself. But like I said, a wetsuit will do just fine.

I've done many winter dives at Anacapa in a 7mm. It really helps to also hear a 3mm or 5mm hooded vest. Drink lots of hot water/hot tea in between dives, which keeps your body temp up. take off the top of your wetsuit in between dives and put on a hat and warm sweater. I've even sat in the hot tub in between dives, which also helps a lot.

good luck!

Scott

I will add my "" YES"" I am a cold sissy, and I was very comfortable at Anacapa in a 7mm for 25 dives on a four day Live aboard all around the Channel Islands!
