Any comparaison, between the cmoptima vs the fix-ccr? I’m waiting for couple reviews before jumping into the ccr world!

Well at first glance the most noticeable thing is the size. When I first got into chest mounted units I looked at the CM but after seeing how huge it is I ended up with a Triton. I wanted something small and streamline also something that would work well as a bail out unit. Too bad the FX did not come out a couple years ago.

I am not a big guy 5'10" but also at the same time not small and the CM I found to be a little overwhelming in size for a chest unit I can't imagen if your a smaller framed person.

So it's an ECCR which can also have a needle valve? That seems pretty brilliant honestly.
If you’d like to listen to arguments for and against this notion, feel free to search “hCCR” or hybrid revo. The orfice in the revo block is pressed in and not serviceable. That said, it’s a great large block if you’d like to smash some seals.

It’s a…contentious argument, but the use of a needle at least resolves one of the issues with the revo.

Are you talking about the CMF orifice in the rEvo MAV block?

rEvos haven’t been built that way in years. The CMF is easy to service or replace. It’s under the scrubber, next to the solenoid.

I definitely do NOT really like the chest clutter aspect of the Chop. But, with a SM rig and a couple of LP85s, it is way nicer in the caves than my rEvo. The breathing in a lot of the orientations that caves require is so much nicer on the Chop. The rEvo is still my preference outside of the caves.

If I have a BM CCR, then I want BM CLs and no chest clutter.

If I have nothing on my back (except an air cell), then I'm okay with having it all on my chest.

There are some nice things with CM rebreathers. Light & portable for travel and the ability to easily remove/replace them are at the top of the list.

I looked at the order page for it on the Sub-Gravity website.

One thing I found to be odd and I would hope would not be an actual limitation:

The unit could not be configured with both a Shearwater Petrel3 AND a NERD2.

You could/can choose one or the other as a controller. But, for example, there is no way to choose a Petrel3 as your controller and then also choose a NERD2 as a monitor. The only monitor options are to use a HUD you already own or to choose a Shearwater HUD.

I would HOPE that that is just a limitation of the Sub-Gravity order page and not an actual limitation of the FX itself. But, I guess it remains to be seen.

In contrast, the Choptima can have a Petrel3 or NERD2 controller and also have a Petrel3 or NERD2 monitor.

You can even have 2 controllers (on the Chop) and plug one into the actual controller port and the other into the monitor port and use it as just a monitor. Thus having the flexibility that if either one dies, you can ensure the working one is plugged into the controller port and replace the other one with the standard Shearwater blinky-light HUD, so you can keep diving. Very handy (in my opinion) for traveling to remote dive destinations.

Now that I know that is possible, I would want any CCR I own to have that same capability. The rEvo cannot and I'll knock it for that - though I can have a Petrel controller and a NERD monitor. They just are not interchangeable, like they are on the Choptima.
I imagine that may have been a limitation of the ordering software or the website or an interface issue. It’s been almost a year, done the above post.
I was able to configure a unit with a petrol three as the controller and a nerd as the display, and they’re both on the same kind of fisher cable, and apparently inter Chang Hable.

I was there at the shop today and was told I could swap them out between each other.

So I do like the idea of using a petrol three as the controller and the nerd as a display, but potentially using the nerd as a controller if necessary.

It's been some time since the FX-CCR was announced. It's on various websites (SubGravity, RebreatherPro).

What's missing is any reviews of it and people talking about how it dives online.

Anyone here with any news of this unit?

(Am researching for a simple and light chestmount CCR for travel that will also work with sidemount in caves. The FX-CCR has a ton of great features which makes it a strong contender on paper.)

At the risk of being Captain Obvious, I'll suggest the Choptima. (And now I'll go away and hide.)
