Hi!

I had posted this in the Introductions, but thought of posting it here as well to reach more local people.

I joined the forum back in 2004 when I first got into diving, and have been reading and learning a lot up to now.

A little background about myself: I got certified in Aruba, have dived in Florida a few times too, then had to put diving on hold for a while... up until this summer I had been a warm water diver, somewhat afraid of the cold Massachusetts water but did my first local dives in Cape Ann this summer and loved it.

I'm hoping to participate in the forums, and also looking forward to getting in touch with local divers, as I don't yet have a local buddy to dive with.

Welcome Nunofs,

Are you still diving this year or are you taking a break until spring? I know here in Maine the water temperature is still on par with June. Changng out from a wet dive afterwards is the adventure.

Hi Pete, I'd still like to dive into the Fall, as you said water temps haven't dropped much yet. One of the dives I'd love to do "locally" is a seal dive at Isles of Shoals, but haven't found any charters with booked trips so late in the season.

Hey there Nuno! Welcome to ScubaBoard and local diving! You'll enjoy both, I'm sure.

How about sharing a bit more about your recent local dives, water temps, the thermal protection you used and if you found it warm enough?

As Spectrum mentioned, water temps are still pretty good, especially in certain areas.

Have fun! Buddies will be easy to find here! Just ask around.

Welcome to both the NELD and the cold water!

Great diving, great people, not to mention the Red Sox, can't go wrong around here. :D

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

I did a few shore dives in Cape Ann (Old Garden and Plum Cove), with water temps as low as 52F (under the thermocline). I was wearing a 7mm (plus separate hood) and except for the initial shock when crossing the thermocline :11:, didn't feel too cold. In the meanwhile I got a 7mm hooded vest so should be even more comfortable.

Welcome Nuno!
Are you still playing guitar for Extreme?

This place is a great resource. Pay extra attention to any threads talking about the Gloucester flag rule and the ones on lobstering laws.

Nuno, I forgot to mention that MetroWest Dive Club meets at Burger King on Rt 128 almost every Saturday at 8am (10am in the "off season") to choose the day's dive site, which is usually on Cape Ann. They're a great group that will welcome an additional buddy.

I'm not a member, but I've dove with them several times over the years. They occasionally go to dive sites that could be considered "novice", if that is a concern for you.

Since I dive Front Beach quite a bit, you could buddy up with me sometime. If conditions are real promising, I might go next weekend. PM me if you like.

Unfortunately, I usually don't make a commitment until the night before, since conditions have to be pretty good to make it worth the 250-mile round trip! :)

Tentative plans like that work fine for my typical solo diving, but I can understand a buddy needing more commitment than that. :D

Eh eh eh! I wish... same first name, same city, different last name ;)

Pay extra attention to any threads talking about the Gloucester flag rule and the ones on lobstering laws.

I've been following those topics, but thanks for the heads up... this year I didn't go into lobstering, as I wanted to get familiar with the conditions before adding any "distractions", but maybe next season.
