I can post new threads as evidenced here but for the past few weeks, every time I try to quote a poster and add to a thread SB locks up and windows has to recover the page, losing what I have written. Is this a SB problem or a Microsoft problem?

thanks

If you are using Internet Explorer 8 or 9, then possibly. One other user reported something similar, but didn't provide much info.

This is what I said to do there...

1) Delete Old SB cookies and Cache
2) Use IE in Compatibility Mode - To do this... you click on the "compatibility mode" icon in the address bar on the right of the address... It looks like this ->

This may resolve the issues.

Otherwise, I'd suggest using Chrome Browser or Firefox. Personally, I use Chrome.

Thanks for posting the "fix" as I too have experienced the issue six times in the past 24 hours. Just a little frustrating and certainly not "solved" as the title of this thread indicates. I am hoping NetDoc and the ScubaBoard gurus can drill down on the problem just a bit further to resolve the problem for ALL ScubaBoard members. If the "twaek" could be done one time on the ScubaBoard side (as opposed each person having to adjust thier computer settings), this member would be grateful.

Thanks in advance for your consideration and Happy Holidays to ALL my friends at ScubaBoard. Y'all are the best!

Hi, and thanks for commenting.

Most browser specific problems can't just have a "tweak" applied by me. I AM the ScubaBoard support "team". I can't "drill down" a problem that I can't duplicate, and I definitely can't drill down a problem when I don't even know exactly what it is. I know that I asked the reporter to help me by providing more insight as to which plug-in was the culprit, and offered advice on how to do that as well... As of yet... Nobody has offered any insight into the cause, only that my solution appears to work.

In the meantime... I have to reiterate that if everyone had the problem, that would be a different story, and it would be something that I could "tweak" and actually fix. This problem effects a small percentage of users who are using this specific browser, with this specific plug-in which causes the problem.

If any additional information is available to me, I can look deeper into potential causes and solutions.

Howard,

Thanks for the prompt reply and for all you do on the ScubaBoard. I had another "lock up" so I came back to this thread ...

I am uncertain if the following helps but I pass it along as FYI...

I am using IE 9.0.8112.16421

Blades.

I understand that you are hoping for a solution from ScubaBoard that makes it so that you can use your browser the way you want it. However, I can't do that without knowing which plugin is responsible for the "lock-up" and even if I do know which plugin it is. I can't even say that a fix is possible.

Knowing all of the plugins you are using doesn't really help me. I'm not going to install all of them on my browser in hopes of having this unusual "lock-up" happen to me so that I can then figure out which plugin is messing up everything. This wouldn't be very effective troubleshooting.

Since you are having the problem, and so far only 4 users who are all using IE9 have complained that they have an issue (really 3 now, since 1 responded they have resolved the problem), let me ask you:

Have YOU disabled your plugins "add-ins"?

As I posted in the other thread... You have to disable your plugins and then re-enable them one at a time to determine which one is causing you grief.
  • Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button
    4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg
. In the search box, type Internet Explorer, and then, in the list of results, click Internet Explorer.
  • Click the Tools button
    448ef968-d58a-43a2-b0cc-f396f4024f2c_14.jpg
, and then click Manage add-ons.
  • Under Show, click All add-ons.
  • Click an add-on, and then do one of the following:
    • To make the add-on available for use in the browser, click Enable.
    • To turn the add-on off so it can't be used in the browser, click Disable.
  • Repeat step 4 for each add-on that you want to turn on or off. When you're finished, click Close.
If this solution isn't suiting you to then I have to suggest you use Chrome.

If you do figure out exactly which plugin is causing you grief, then that really helps me know for the future. The other user whose problem was fixed by disabling plugins didn't respond. If users don't help me support them... I can't.

Thanks. :)

P.S. - I would start with the Skype plugin. Call it a hunch, but it caused weirdness in a different situation a while ago.

my .02:

I'd disable the Java plug-in, then remove and re-install Java completely.

Pretty clearly this is NOT a one-off issue. I'm not a techie but it does seems to me that for a "tech support person" to say "go download a different browser" is NOT a good solution.

Something is clearly buggy with how SB interacts with IE 9 -- and it appears this is only a SB issue.
