Integrated weights falling out

I'd bet that if you asked Aqualung nicely they would repair/replace/upgrade your BC to the current style, which uses some type of positive locking mechanism (can't tell exactly from their website).

It's bad for business when your products cause your customers have repeated runaway ascents.

I would probably try and do this too. Aqualung has made SureLock (a quicklease system) standard for their weight integrated BC.

One of the instructor I know had the older version of the ProQD which uses velcro for securing the weight pouches, he had lost a weight pouch. I have got a SeaQuest ProQD+ which comes with the SureLock system. Never had problems on weight falling out.

Like Bishop, I split weight between a belt and my integrated weight.
If you have the weights installed right, and they still fall out, you may want to take the darn thing back to the LDS or where ever you bought it. Certainly must be defective, if not the Velcro, then the design.
Now, if you bought it used, it sounds like you may have learned why it was for sale in the first place
There are lots of integrated weight systems out there that are a lot more secure. My Scubapro has locking clips that are very secure.

I'd take the BC back...never had any problems with weights dropping.

Whatever your weight configuration make sure the "ditchable" weight is the more substantial part. Ditching weights is a last straw, you want that body on the surface NOW. A chamber visit is expected.

There is at least one documented case where a buddy tried to save his friend by dumping his weight belt and the unconscious victim did not ascend. Later it was discovered that he had numerous weight bags in non-ditchable pockets, and even clip on weights, but the ditchable belt had too little weight on it.

If you make a conscious decision to split or redistribute weight please keep this in mind, even if you use tank weights (neck rings or boot disks), clip ons, ankle weights, or any other modifications.

I have never lost my Seaquest QD weights. I use 6# soft weights in each front holder.

I think you need to get tough, rude if needed, with the manufacturer. This should not happen, and it is dangerous. Tell them that you paid for safe gear and you want safe gear.

I wouldn't hesitate on this at all, but then - I know that my BC's manufacturer - Oceanic - is very customer oriented. Hope yours is too.

Thank you all so much for your help. I did buy the Diva LX new and the shop has offered to rough up the velcro for me but I think it is better to go to source and get the manufacturer to check it. Lets hope Seaquest have giood customer help!

I only put 3lbs in each integrated weight pouch, i used lead weights not soft. I just can't believe the velcro has already lost its grip. Either my jacket is faulty or it really is (as a couple of people have suggested) a very bad design.

I may see if I can upgrade to the new XLT that has lockable pouches that don't rely on velcor though.... lets hope seaquest have a good customer service centre.

Contact the manufacturer. The pouches shouldn't be falling out with only 3lbs. Beware the lockable pouches, too. I've had a pouch with the CQR mechanism fall out with 10lbs. My sister had the same thing happen to her with 8lbs in it. Even though the pouches say "Maximum weight 10lbs", I wouldn't put more than 5lbs in one of those things. Nothing like a good ole weight belt.
