I am looking for an insurance for diving equipment (eg cameras, torches etc.). Some offer these but only if the equipment is lost during a dive accident which limits it drastically. Does anyone know such insurance (for EU citizens)?

In the USA, often homeowners or renters insurance will cover the loss of equipment. Sometimes you can have what is known as a "policy rider" for specific items (usually high cost items like jewelry, art, antiques, firearms, etc.) where the insurance company that provides your homeowners insurance charges a small amount of money to cover specified items. I don't know if this is available in Italy or the EU, but you should call and ask your insurance company.

As with all insurance, be sure to check the fine print. I recently discovered my house insurance rider for my underwater camera equipment did not cover water damage. I'm currently trying to figure out if better coverage is available (in Canada).

I ran across an older thread from a Canadian who said that he was able to get itemized coverage through his insurance company. Not clear on details, but presume this is similar to insurance for jewelry or specific high value items.

I think you can get just about anything insured but it boils down to cost and specific coverage.

I've always had a personal articles policy through my insurer State Farm for all my photography gear including housings/strobes and whatnot. It covers pretty much any kind of loss including theft, missing luggage, dropped to the bottom of the ocean, flooded housing, etc... I think I pay like $250-300/year for like $16K+ worth of coverage. I provide State Farm with a spreadsheet listing all the items, serial numbers, MSRP's, and update it for them whenever I change out gear. It's much cheaper than DAN or any other diving-specific plans.

Talk to your insurer and tell them exactly what you need the policy for and they should be able to steer you in the right direction.
