One would probably place a Help Wanted ad in the local paper :D

If they call SSI Headquarters they can place the advertisement on the web page for prospective instructors to see and they can also place an ad in the SSI Magazine. But the best would be to look on http://www.ssiusa.com/kmortensen.htm and contact Kirt Mortensen in Clearwater who is the regional representative and a heck of a nice person.

Funnily enough I had the same question in reverse. Where do SSI instructors find jobs? PADI, as I understand, have a very active 'proboard'(?) whereas the SSI USA jobs listings board has jack on it for months at a time.

I was reading an old SSI Dive Business magazine and in the editorial old mate SSI CEO was quoted as saying that there weren't enough instructors being produced -- 'almost every SSI retailer needs an instructor but can't find one and resorts often need more than one'...

As a reasonably experienced SSI DiveCon instructor in the initial stages of looking for a move I emailed SSI Training, the editorial team at the Dive Business and old mate himself asking how I would go about contacting these dive retailers/resorts as all the resources provided (SSI USA jobs listing, SSI Aus members forum...) by them were virtually unused and every generic dive jobsite (http://www.diversjobs.com/ ...) lists 99.99% PADI vacancies...

Admittedly there was more cheek than a baboons bum in my email but I didn't receive a reply. I emailed again a couple of weeks later to see if they had any advice on how easy it would be for a UK citizen to get work/visa/etc in the US and what would be the best way for me to approach potential employers. In the email I half-jokingly suggested I blanket email of my cv to every SSI affiliate going. My response was a one-liner stating that they had no idea re visas and that a mass mail might be the way to go.

I think they need a kick up the bum as far as their recruiting network is concerned. It has been explicitly stated by the man in charge that it isn't sufficient and as someone on the ground it looks pretty hopeless.

I would think if you wanted to work you could do a cross over to padi ...it is a simple procedure ....if you need help just ask
good luck...Gary

Hey! Thanks for mentioning my Web. (DiversJobs.com) I post only good jobs from PADI website, I also post jobs vacancies from NAUI and from other little small websites.

No problem, I think it's a great resource, although lacking in SSI openings! If you here of any good ones, point them in my direction.
