I guess I never revealed the location I was talking about, but this is the Breakwater in Monterey California. And as unfortunate as it is, this has a lot to do with this entire thread, this guy lauched within 100 yards from the spot I stood when I watched these events, on the same day as this event. I just heard about this.

Sad, very sad. I am just very glad we finished our class early, so we weren't there when they brought the ambulances and such past our students, not a good confidence builder for a new diver. My heard goes out to the family and friends of this diver, I hope we can all bring something from this unfortunate event.
 
Are you referencing a different thread than the one you linked to below? If so, could you post the link to the thread you refer to?

In regards to the news article and thread you linked to, the emergency teams rolled into Breakwater around 10:30am that morning. Our OW class was just entering the water for our first dive of the day when it happened. It was a harsh reminder about how unforgiving diving can be, especially when you are still in your OW class!
