Aloha everyone!

My girlfriend and I are both PADI Instructors and charter captains. We've been moving around for a few years now and have lived on the Big Island, Puerto Rico, Bonaire, and St. Croix working in the boating/diving industry. We are looking into moving to Mexico to work for a year or so...a couple things we're looking for:

-Good diving
-Strong Mexican culture
-Enough tourism to stay busy with work
-Some type of surfing

I've heard a good amount about Cozumel of course, but we've been looking into Cabo as well. Looking for some info or advice from anyone who's dove or lived out there, or anywhere else in Mexico. Other than location, I'm wondering what pay is like - what are tips/tourists like - is work tough to find - what are the costs of living - do they hire non local captains -

Any info is much appreciated guys.

Mahalo nui,

Jace & Tonia :D

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

This is a big site with lots of places to post. I think your question will be better off in the Mexico forum, and I will move it there.

What country are your licenses from, do you qualify for a Vanuatu endorsement, is your STCW current, do you have liveaboard experience, how are you with air conditioning and air compressors? I know of a couple of Mexican liveaboarda looking for Captains. Are you fluent Spanish speakers?

Hey Capt Frank, our licenses are from the US. Unfortunately we don't possess the STCW certs yet, and we have a small Yorkie that we are not looking to part with, so I think a liveaboard is out of the cards for now. Our Spanish is minimal as well! Thanks for the help though.

I enjoyed having a cat on my liveaboard, but you are right, some owners are not as understanding.
