I have just got replacement HP adn LP hoses. Is there a certain way to install them, or do I just take them off swap with new ones and go. Also are there any O-rings or special stuff required???

Hi mrg7243:

Hose replacement can be simple. All you need are the hoses and o-rings associated with each hose. Tools can vary; I am a perfectionist, so I use a torque wrench which I admit is overkill but it's me. I would shy away from adjustable wrenches (like Crescent) and use only open ended wrenches for each size of hose fitting.

Lightly lubricate the o-ring, and gingerly slip it over the threaded area of the male connection. Try not to scrape unnecessarily the o-ring on the threads. Remove your old hoses, take a peek in the holes, and then screw the hoses in by hand. There is a specified torque for hoses and blanking plugs but the torque varies slightly with each brand of regulator, so look here for great advice from reliable sources. Pressurize your regulator to check for leaks and then do a wet test to observe for bubbles. Hopefully there will be none. I hope this helps and good luck.

With kind regards,
Thomas

I don't bother torquing them but other wise I agree with Thomas, been turning wrenches a lot of years. They are brass and the Oring actually does the sealing so they only need to be slightly tighter than finger tight, basically just past where you can remove them by hand. The real keys here are to remove and replace them with the proper wrench, hand tighten them until they stop and then lightly tighten them with the proper wrench- torque if you like. If you have leaks, there is a bad Oring, dirt or a bad seating surface. More tighting the hose may hide the problem but you are just as likely as to do damage...fix the problem instead of using more torque.

Thnak-you, What do I lubricate the O-Ring with???

If you are using regular Nitrile O-rings I assume you use only air or max 40% Oxygen, in this case you can lubricate with silicon grease, but if you use with a higher concentration of oxygen (EAN50, 100% Oxygen, usually deco bottles regs), then you need to use a syntetic, inert oxygen compatible lubricant and your O-rings should also be oxygen compatible, probably viton.

And lubing it means making it slick and shinny, no globs. A little goes long way.

Thank-you all who posted I installed the hoses no problems, and took them out for a dive with no leaks or issues.
