Gald to see you having a good laugh considering you have been crying about bulling.

You did not bully me.

I had and have a problem with your buddy "syntaxerrorsix," but then again this is the internet and such behavior is not uncommon.

Was he your buddy in your foursome cave dive with Bill's rental dive-light?

We have not dived together. Just like anyone that has kept up with your nonsense will dive with you.

Comparing a rental light to foregoing a depth and bottom timer isn't even within the realm of apples to apples. Another dodge.

Ya bet!

I'd never do a cave dive with a rental dive light, would you?

I haven't but I would. We have a full compliment of reliable gear in the Central/North Florida area for rent at a number of dive shops.

What I won't do is just leave one behind because I've been in that system before and decided that I'll just guess my way around the system and then brag about making it out without issue.

I mean what sort of complete tool forgets his gear, doesn't have a buddy with extra gear and can't be bothered to go rent a piece of equipment before doing some mundane dive he's done 400 times before?

Nope, I see no problems with renting a piece of gear as opposed to going without or just thumbing the dive.

Holy Crap! This thread is still going on?
I gotta say, I'm a bit saddened that I lost my old laptop. I had a script written that would delete every word on my screen that came from Gianiamaimanianinani. For some reason, on this window's 7, I can't get it to work. I miss that.

With that said, (and I'm going to be very careful here as to not break any rules by talking about a group of dolphins and NOT a group of people) have you ever met a group of dolphins where most of them are swimming along just fine, but one dolphin in the middle is a real dillhole? That dillhole is starved for attention, can't get along with other dolphins, and quite frankly, no other dolphin would ever knowingly swim with said dillhole. Dillhole Dolphin has no choice but to fabricate stories of swimming blue oceans because he's so unloved. Sadly, these stories are often so fantastical that every other dolphin knows they are a load of whale shiitt. You see, the other 30 dolphins have ACTUALLY swam all these blue oceans. So when Dillhole Dolphin talks about the ocean temperature, terrain of the sea floor and the creatures of the see, it's clearly evident that Dillhole Dolphin is lying. This simply perpetuates the problem and ensures that Dillhole Dolphin will NEVER be accepted as one of the group, and will be laughed at and mocked until the day he dies.... all alone. It's a sad life, but Dillhole Dolphin has created it and perpetuates it with every story of the cave.... err I mean sea.

At any rate, don't waste your time. The true dolphins of the sea know this guy for his bs, (gah, I mean Dillhole Dolphin) for his fanciful stories and are not fooled by the lies. Move on people, there's nothing to see here.

That was what I said, I never bully anyone and surly not you.

No he was not a buddy and we have never had the pleasure of diving together. I would like to dive with him. Syntaxerrorsix and I am just two divers caught up in an endless debate of just how screwed up your decision was. We, as well as others, are trying to promote cave diving as a great sport and you are try to promote it as something to be taken lightly. I find a problem with my light and I correct the problem by renting a light that is more trustworthy than my own. You find that you equipment is at home and decide to without required equipment. Also I was with a team and there were 4 pri. lights and 8 backup lights. You were solo with no pri. equipment and no backup equipment. So we can say that I did a band-aid fix and you did nothing to correct the equipmet problem.

Tony, it makes you wonder why he is so distrusting of rental gear. I guess he has never traveled to dive?

How do you know the light you rented was more trustworthy than your own?

The "Team" argument is BS because team separation (especially in a 4 man team which is a "crowd") can happen all the time, whether by choice, or by accident, and you could have been left alone in the cave with a dive shop rental light of which you had no idea about the history and state of the battery.

Equally, you had no idea of the reliability of the lights of your buddies (or any other part of their equipment as a matter of fact).

You started the dive with equipment which was critical to YOUR dive and YOUR safety and had no way of knowing its reliability (acceptable maybe in Scuba 101 dives, but certainly not cave diving).

Don't you have some rules in the USMC about knowing your weapons or you just pick-up the first M4 you find lying about (or a rental and go to war...)?

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will... My rifle and I know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy.

Rental gear may be fine for Scuba 101 dives because in Scuba 101 dives there are entirely different conditions and risks from those you find instead in a cave.

As to the rest of your comments, my Risk Assessment of that dive that day holds and you cannot fault it nor can anybody else in this respectable forum.

This nicely defines Sociopath.

No.

In cave diving I do not follow rules which are not suitable to the environment or where an alternative rule including of my own making can reduce my risk and this can be reasonably shown in a formal risk assessment.

It is Risk Management and Self-preservation 101.

We actually dive caves here and the shops cater to cave diving, using rental gear is quite common. The only thing "101" here is you and your risk management techniques.

I'm not sure what sort of "teams" you are used to diving with but here it is not common to get separated from the them. You may want to consider that they are trying to send you a message if this is common place on your dives.

Oh and don't drag the Marine Corps into this. There are only so many things you are unqualified to discuss in one conversation.
