Information re: Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

I've heard nothing but good things about the little town of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

I hope to get down there for 4 or 5 nights in a few weeks. I have some questions:

I'll be flying out of Newark International Airport (we actually had some snow today) and I assume I would arrive at Fort Lauderdale Airport (as opposed to West Palm Beach) and was wondering how far is the airport from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

I understand that it's a good place for shore diving so I am assuming there are dive shops at the beach for getting tanks as well as arranging boat dives also.

I'd much prefer to avoid a car rental if possible and I don't go out to bars and such at night. I'm basically a big bore . Hotel/motel recommendations would help too.

Any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Lauderdale by the Sea is great although the shore diving has not been recently. It is a real hit and miss this time of year. There is a dive store Deep Blue Divers on Commercial and Ocean Blvd (A1A) and we do not have dive boats right in LBTS area that I know of. I would say you will be safer going with boat dives and if the weather permits get in a shore dive. I hope you have fun and be safe.

Hi,

When you say "It is a real hit and miss this time of year" what are you referring to specifically.

I was at the Hyatt Regency 2 years ago and found it way too expensive for my needs. The restaurant prices were absurd.

Last week you could not shore dive at all due to large waves strong current and no vis. I hope that help clarify for you.

Rent a kitckenette, walk to the Publix, and make your own food. You can stay there without a car. You could even take the shuttle bus to Pompano where the boats are. I've thought about it. The motel I used to go to got sold (along with my tanks).

evad this is very true and we have live music in the evenings on the weekends for everyone to enjoy, it is a fun place. Public transportation here rocks

It is a neat place, although I miss the telephone poles. It's hard to believe a place like that can still exist.

Any other locations in the general area that you could recommend or maybe I should fly into Miami and drive to Key Largo?

You should really come here because we have some of the best wreck dives as well as Boynton Beach and Key Largo. But I would plan to boat dive with the hopes of possibly getting in a shore dive.
