I'm usually in the northeast of the U.S.
Hello all,

I am leaning toward a separate inflation system for my drysuit. I just picked up a 14ft argon bottle and am considering options for my 1st stage and inflater hose. I currently have a pretty sweet genesis bracket that can sit it between doubles on the back side (or can side mount it). Any ideas on a 1st stage and since i am in the northeast, im assuming i need envi sealed as well for winter?

also, sidemounting seems like a great idea, but if i am slinging an 80 and a 40 , it seems a little much to add to my left side?

appreciatively

An environmentally sealed regulator is not needed for a dry suit inflator. Because gas flow is low there is little risk of freeflows. What you do need, however, is an overpressure valve screwed into one of the low pressure ports to relieve the pressure and prevent hose rupture in case the first stage developes an IP creep.

The best way to mount an argon bottle is on the left side of your back plate. All you need is two loops of bungee cord. Mount the bottle valve side down, with a loop around the valve for support and another around the bottle to hold it close to the plate. This keeps the bottle where you can reach the valve and also allows you to reach and remove the bottle if you get stuck (keyholed) in a restriction.

?? is an argon DS inflator system really basic scuba discussion to you guys ?? No offense really, just wondering about the difference in thought process!

sorry halemano, im a little under a year on SB and my skills have changed dramatically in the past 8 months, where should i have requested info?

mike_s ... yes i saw that and already pm'd phil last night ... but i was considering slightly longer than 22" if i went to a rear mount system

thank you captn, you make sense ... any difference between the various overpressure valves or are all pretty much as similar as they look?

Everyone wants to be warm.

OPVs are pretty much the same, but definitely mandatory. I would definitely suggest Capt. Dale's method of mounting that bottle. No metal to metal, the bottle is tucked away but right where you can reach it and remove/replace if need be. Since you are in the NE and presumably wreck diving in low vis, I would not want a bottle hangling off the back of my doubles. As for freeflows, as others have mentioned you don't really have to worry about that. Even so, if I am diving a square profile I just shut the bottle down once I am at depth and be done w/ it.

This is what I use. Cold water's not an issue ... I took it to 180 feet in 39 degree water just the other day ... worked just fine.

I believe that is the same (basic) reg as the highland. Same as the oxycheq, golem gear, etc. I have the salvo as well.
