Hi everyone, it's been over a year since I got my PADI open water certification and I haven't been on any dives since then. I'm planning on going to San Diego from the 13th-24th and I would love to go diving but wanted to go either with a company that doesn't mind inexperienced divers (and has equipment to rent) or a group friendly to noobs. Any good recommendations for trip companies or groups? Thanks!

Go to pacificwilderness.com .....they have a group dive every weekend somewhere in socal...anybody can dive with them...

I don't think that he would want to drive from San Diego to LA to go diving with Pacific Wilderness.

chaosbuzz,

I hope that San Diego divers may chime in soon to help you out. I don't know much about San Diego diving scene, only went down there a few times for boat diving.

Chaosbuzz,

Since you haven't been diving for a year my recommendation would be to start off with a refresher/ guided dive at either La Jolla Cove or La Jolla Shores. IB Divers La Jolla and Ocean Enterprises are two good shops that can provide you with a guide and rental gear. Another convenient option would be to go with Al's diving/ Diving for Less. Al is an independent instructor. He'll meet you at the dive site with any rental gear you need.

After you get your refresher dive done definitely come out diving with Power Scuba. There are currently dives scheduled for Aug 14, 15, 17, 18, 19 and 22. The Aug 18 Cove dive and BBQ should be especially fun. The weekday dives are scheduled at 6pm but since the sun is setting around 7:30pm they're not night dives.

Conditions were fantastic this weekend so hopefully you'll be able to get in the water for some good dives.

Great, thanks for the great tips (esp chiapet) I just got into San Diego and will check this out asap. Is anyone diving this weekend with powerscuba so at least I would know someone a little bit :u)
