I can second this recommendation. Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban and Maratua Island seem to have something for everyone.

What are the resorts in that area?

The 2 largest that I am aware of (now that Sangalaki Dive Lodge (SDL) is no longer in operation or barely operational based on what has been posted to the list) are:

Derawan Dive Resort
www.derawan.com

and

Nabucco Island Resort
www.nabuccoisland.com

If you are into critters and / or photography, no place better than Lembeh Straits. I would recommend Lembeh Resort. Great spot and really good crew there. We spent a week on Bali (Tulamben at Mimpi) then 8 days at Lembeh and it was amazing. It is muck diving in Lembeh, so don't expect 100 ft. vis., but the things that you see will blow you away. Here is a link to my gallery.... http://www.maurbies.com/album/bali/index.html

Amanwana resort at Moyo - small island in florest sea http://www.amanwana.com/ absolutely nice resort, offer Komodo dive experience so u can expect big fish.
never been there - not even think to be there for USD750++/night excl. meal in an ocean tent - one of princes Diana favourite retreat or to join Komodo expedition of USD 14,150 (2 night ocean tent + 5 night LOB)
I have a dream ....

Hi,

Just came back from a 5 day trip to Telumben in Bali. Great criiter life as well as a whale shark asnd countless bumpheads and black tips reef sharks. Stayed in a nice place Telumben Reef Divers resort. Oh I forgot to mention that the wreack of US Liberty is a shore dive. Quite extraordinary. Didnt see the mola mola. Overall worth while.
