almitywife:
thats how i got our tags - with our membership.........

I am a full DAN member and did not get a tag :shakehead: . If I was given one, I would DEFINITELY clip it to my BC somewhere visible.

DandyDon:
JBD, with all due respect, I think you're full of caca...

........You have every right to dive foolishly without insurance, but you send a poor message to students and newbies with your arguments.........

I think that stating that JBD is "diving foolishly" is a VERY BIG stretch :no . Only those who dive with him can say for sure if he dives foolishly. We, as nothing more than readers of a thread, can only say, in our opinion, that it is not recommended to dive without insurance. I agree that DAN is a good idea, however not having it DOES NOT make somebody a less competent diver.

I quietly read  many long threads where people get into written arguments and I just chuckle. There are people on here (SB - and I AM NOT referencing DD or JBD) who simply seek out those threads where they can pick the fight. When people feel passionate about a subject, they tend to make leaps and get accusatory in posts. Not constructive, but sometimes a real time killer.

Been a Dan member for 5 years - have never seen or heard of a tag!

i think its been said earlier than DAN Asia/Pacific provided a tag with membership... im still looking for mine because i will use it as soon as i do find it!

Good point!

As someone who has dove with JBD, I can assure you he does NOT dive foolishly. Whether or not he wants to join DAN or carry diving insurance is up to him and has nothing to do with his competence as a diver, which is exceptional by the way.

Safe diving has been around a lot longer than diving insurance.

My apologies to Jbd on that one...

By foolishly, I meant diving without dive insurance. I don't know what he tells his students, but my commendations to Instructors who sign up their students for the free DAN insurance during training and encourage them to keep it.

I understand it is not needed in Canadian waters, but outside of Canada - only prudent to have it.

You're in DAN America. It's different from DAN Asia. I think ours are made sturdier, but waiting on Almightwife to find hers and shoot pics.

How closely do your read the ads in the DAN magazine? In there often. Anyway, you have now - the point of launching this thread in my own clumsy manner. ;)

Good move DandyDon....that pique was not your style.

Some choose to self insure and not pay corporations for that service.

Whether it is diving insurance or medical insurance, everyone is different.

It is still kind of a free country.

I make a lot of mistakes and try to make amends to any I err. I still think it personally foolish to save $99 a year by diving without any dive insurance coverage, tho.
